The city of Cape Coral has become known for the amount of Burrowing Owls that reside within the city limits.

Specialty Species:

Burrowing Owl:  Look for this owl in roped-off areas around the city.  Most roped-off areas have a white T-shaped perch for the owls, so looking for that will also lead you to the owls.

Where to Bird:

The City Library:  The library is one of the most reliable spots for the Burrowing Owls, but anywhere that you find that has a perch will be somewhat reliable as well.  The best time to look for these birds is at dawn and dusk.

You can watch the owls from your car on some streets, but the best way to do it is to watch from the sidewalks.

Many trails throughout the park offer ample opportunity to hike.

Directions:

From the North:  Take I-75 South towards Miami.  Take Exit 158 for Tuckers Grade/CR-762 W.  Turn left (west).  Go 0.9 miles and turn left onto US-41/Tamiami Trail.  After 13.6 miles, turn right (west) onto Pine Island Road.  Go 2.7 miles and turn left (south) onto Del Prado Boulevard.  After 7.3 miles, turn right (west) onto Cape Coral Parkway.  Go 2.9 mile, turn right (north) onto Skyline Boulevard.  After 1.05 miles, turn left (west) onto Mohawk Parkway.  Go 0.25 miles and turn right (north) onto SW 9th Ct.  This runs straight into the library.  Park somewhere around the building and walk to grounds looking for the owls.

From the South:  Take I-75 North towards Fort Myers.  Take Exit 131 for Daniels Parkway.  Turn left (west) onto Daniels Parkway and go 4.9 miles. Turn right (north) onto US-41/Tamiami Trail.  After 0.7 miles, turn left (west) onto College Parkway.  Go 3.9 miles and cross the toll bridge.  The road becomes Cape Coral Parkway.  After crossing the bridge go 3.6 miles and turn right (north) onto Skyline Boulevard.  After 1.05 miles, turn left (west) onto Mohawk Parkway.  Go 0.25 miles and turn right (north) onto SW 9th Ct.  This runs straight into the library.  Parking is available around the building, park here and walk to grounds looking for the owls.
