This state park has not been heavily birded in the past but does offer some birding potential.

Specialty Species:

Black Vulture:  Black Vultures are commonly seen soaring above the park and also roosting in some areas.

Chuck-will’s-widow:  This species can be heard calling in the park at night.  If you cannot find them in the park, try some of the surrounding County Roads.

Where to Bird:

Trail 4:  This long trail is one of the best areas in the park to look for warblers and other passerines.

Spring Mill Lake:  This area is worth a quick check for waterfowl.

Nature Center:  Check the feeders at the Nature Center for typical feeder birds.

Directions:

From the East:  From the intersection of SR-65 and SR-60 in Salem, take SR-60 West.  After 18.4 miles, turn right (north) into Spring Mill State Park.

From the West:  From the intersection of SR-37 and SR-60 in Mitchell, take SR-60 East.  After 3.4 miles, turn left (north) into Spring Mill State Park.
