This former strip mine provides some of the best grassland habitat in Southern Indiana.
Specialty Species:
Barn Owl: This owl nests on the property. While still hard to find, it is easiest to spot them in the evening and at night.
Bell’s Vireo: This species nests on the property and can be found during the summer.
Blue Grosbeak: Blue Grosbeaks are common nesters in the grassland areas of this property.
Grasshopper and Henslow’s Sparrows: Both of these sparrows can be found nesting in the grasslands on this property.
Hawks: This property is a great place to find hawks. Northern Harriers can be found throughout the year, and Rough-legged Hawks can be found during the winter months.
Waterfowl: Waterfowl can be found on lakes that were once mining pits during the winter months.
Least Bittern: This species nests in the marshy areas on the property. It is most easily heard early in the morning hours.

County Roads: This area can only be birded from the county roads. Drive around the property looking for the above listed species. The roads here can be confusing since many intersections do not have road signs.

From the North: From the intersection of I-64 and I-164, take I-164 South. Go 5.4 miles and take Exit 15 for Boonville/New Harmony Road. Turn left (east) onto Boonville/New Harmony Road. After 0.75 miles, turn left (north) into the first parking area and information station.
From the South: From the intersection of US-41 and I-164 in Evansville, take I-164 East. After 15 miles, take Exit 15 for Boonville/New Harmony Road. Turn right (east) onto Boonville/New Harmony Road. After 0.6 miles, turn left (north) into the first parking area and information station.Address:
