Ferdinand State Forest

This 7,657 acre site is a mature deciduous forest with conifer stands, a small creek, and a 43 acre lake. It is a great spot to find some of the more rare of Indiana’s nesting warblers.
Specialty Species:
Warblers: Many species can be found in the forest during migration but the main attractions are the nesting species. Cerulean, Hooded, Kentucky, Pine, and Worm-eating all nest in this state forest.
Mississippi Kite: Mississippi Kites can be found soaring overhead in various areas throughout the property during the summer months.

Ferdinand Lake: Park near the reservoir and walk around the area listening for warblers and other passerines.
County Roads: Bird the roads from your vehicle, listening for birds as you drive along slowly.

Directions:
From the East: Take I-64 West to Exit 63 for SR-162 and turn right (north). After 2.1 miles, turn right (east) onto SR-264. Go 4.9 miles and SR-264 ends at Ferdinand State Forest.
From the West: From the intersection of SR-162 and SR-164 in Ferdinand, take SR-164 East. After 5 miles, SR-264 ends at Ferdinand State Forest.
