This pristine old-growth woodland is located along the banks of Sugar Creek.

Specialty Species:

Bald Eagle:  Look for Bald Eagles along Sugar Creek year round.

Woodpeckers:  Every species of Indiana woodpecker can be found around the pond and the parking lot next to the pond.

Vireos:  Look for vireos during the spring and fall around the pond and on trails 1,4,5,7, and 8 as these trails allow access to the creek or along the creek.

Thrushes:  Thrushes are present during the spring and fall along all of the above mentioned trails and pond.

Warblers:  Look for all Indiana warbler species during the spring and fall along the above mentioned trails and pond.

Where to Bird:

Trails 1, 4, 5, and 7:  Hike these trails that pass through great forested habitat.  Spend most of your time along the creek for a chance to see more species as many migrant passerines use forest edge habitat more than the interior.

The Pond:  Walk around the pond and parking area of the pond for the possibility of seeing many spring migrants.  This area is also very good for woodpeckers.  Depending on the time of year, you may be able to see ever Indiana woodpecker in this small area.
